Milton Quality Bakery, the award winning business located on Caroline Street in Milton, well known in the tri-county area for their best-selling glazed donut and fudge fancy cookies, achieved national attention in 2018 for their award in the Sweetest Bakery in America Contest. They were recognized as the Sweetest Bakery in the entire state of Florida and it is an achievement well deserved. The bakery also received two local awards recently, Small Business of the Year Award from Pace Area Chamber in 2017 and the 2018 Business of the Year from Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce.

A Multi-Generational Small Business

The fourth generation of the Malone-Michener family is now working in the bakery, said Eric Michener, son of Frances Michener who both manage the business, as his two sons are currently employed. Frances Michener said her father Lenzo Malone opened the business on Stewart Street around 1962 and built the current building on Caroline Street in 1965. She said she believed the bakery had the first drive through window in Milton.

In those early days, Frances said their menu was smaller but they've kept the same quality as they've grown. The store front is constantly busy with customers, picking up special order cakes, muffins and breads but as Eric said, they are mostly there for donuts.

Social Media Awareness

It's not just word of mouth that keeps the bakery successful. Social media comments are positive for the Milton Quality Bakery. The Yelp review application and website lists Milton Quality Bakery with 4.5 stars and Trip Advisor, another application and website for reviews and places to go, gave the bakery 5 stars; their Facebook business page shows a rating of 4.8 out of 5 with 12,600 followers/likes.

Staple for local economy

The business employs over 30 local residents, said Eric who is happy they keep their dollars local. "It's important in small business," he said.  Eric said they love living in the city of Milton because of the quiet, slow pace and so much to do in the local area. "We both have lived in Milton our entire lives," said Eric, "and we live where we want to vacation. Everyone in Milton is nice. We say 'hey' when we see each other. It's what we do."
