The city of Milton announces a new art contest, Wings over Milton Public Art Contest, an opportunity for area artists to compete for the chance to paint wings, (of any type) on the exterior wall of a downtown Milton building.

Application form

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must be in 8.5 x 11, full color in jpeg format. Submissions must detail the exact dimensions of the completed work, when installed. If selected, the artist will be commissioned to create and install the wings as shown on the submission. A materials list must be provided. All materials proposed must of a type that can withstand the harsh southern environment and weather. A project cost must also be provided.

The selected artist will be recognized at the instillation site and may sign or otherwise "tag" the piece as shown in the examples below. The artist signature or tag must be shown in the submission. The City of Milton will own all rights to the work produced and may reproduce the image in anyway the City so chooses. The artist may, with written permission of the City use the image in marketing/promotional printed or electronic media only. The City may choose to engage the artist, at the City's sole discretion, to reproduce the image on the City's behalf.

Entrants must be at least 18 years of age to enter. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian to sign the Liability and Publicity Release on their behalf as a condition of entry.

Artwork must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity.

The contest will both grant the winner with $500 and cover the cost of the artwork not to exceed $1,000 on a reimbursement basis with valid receipts. The city will own all rights to the work produced and may reproduce the image in any way the city so chooses.

Submissions can also be made by picking up a packet at city hall. For more information email Pamela Holt, public information officer.

Judging Criteria: Appropriateness of the entry to the contest theme (wings), creativity and originality; ability to effectively express meaning and uniqueness.
