The Milton City Council passed Ordinance No. 1471-18 at the May 8, 2018 council meeting. The vote was split with the council with Hathaway, Johnson, Lunsford and Holley voting against. Lowery, Powell, Snow and Smith voted for the ordinance. Mayor Wesley Meiss was the tiebreaker with a yes vote. The ordinance expands areas of alcohol sales in RC1 and DCM Zoning Districts, (certain areas of downtown Milton and Highway 90 corridor) allowing businesses to sell beer, wine and mixed beverages for on-premises consumption in accordance with applicable provisions of state law. Within the alcohol beverage overlay district, bars and taverns are permitted. Ineligible properties are identified by a physical measurement to determine which buildings' front door is within 500 ft. of an existing church or 500 ft. of the property line of an existing school.
