The Milton City Council approved the Blackwater Quarter conceptual plan to move forward. The vote consisted of only one nay from Councilwoman Peggi Smith. The Riverfront Redevelopment Team recommended the plan move to the CRA for approval. The CRA moved the plan to council for the next phase. The Blackwater Quarter is part of the Riverwalk Master Plan.
The Blackwater Quarter will consist of re-developed buildings fronting unto the Riverwalk of both sides of Caroline Street, (North and South Willing Street), with active uses facing the river. It is envisioned to be an entertainment hub with restaurants, outdoor cafes, patios, gathering spaces, etc. The current existing parking behind the buildings is transformed into active public space while being designed to accommodate service vehicles. Balconies at the rear of the buildings would provide upper level restaurant/dining space overlooking the river.
