The Milton City Council began the process to draft an ordinance Tuesday night, December 13 in regards to include Sunday alcohol sales within city limits.
Two years ago, the council listened to several residents and business owners voice their opinions in regards to changing the current alcohol ordinance to include Sunday alcohol sales. The council voted to place the issue on the November 2016 ballot as a non-binding referendum. The election revealed Milton voters approved Sunday alcohol sales (64.88 to 35.12 percent) in a non-binding referendum.
The draft includes not only to add Sunday alcohol sales but to expand current sales in the city from 7 to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Sunday. The draft of the ordinance will be read during the January council meeting and will require a second public reading in February for approval.
The vote was 6 to 2 with councilmembers Pat Lunsford and Mary Ellen Johnson voting nay.
