As a reminder, please do not use roll-out containers to dispose of leaves and yard debris. Leaves and grass must be bagged and left at the curb (off the street) for once-a-week pickup. Brush and limbs may be left at the curb and placed in piles no more than 6 ft in length and 4 in in diameter and no more than 4 ft high. No individual item of yard trash may weigh more than 50 pounds. Limbs may be up to 4 feet in length and no more than 6 inches in diameter. Due to environmental laws, yard trash may not be mixed with household garbage. Your roll-out containers are to be strictly used for household garbage only. The city will collect up to 25 bags and one pile per week at no additional charge. Quantities greater than that are considered excessive and customers have the option to make their own arrangements to dispose of the excessive amounts or pay an additional charge for having the city remove it.
In order to minimize offensive odors and unsightly buildup of residual garbage on the inside of your roll-out containers, occasionally rinse and clean them using a disinfectant, such as PineSol. You may want to place your roll-out container on a regular cleaning schedule when you do other outside chores such as spring cleaning the windows of your home. Periodically, refer to the instructions imprinted on the top of the roll-out container for proper usage and articles that should NOT be discarded within these types of containers.
Help us REDUCE replacement costs of your roll-out containers. After your trash has been picked up, please do not leave your empty container on the curb or near the street. High winds may blow them into the street causing a public safety problem to passing motorists, bikers and pedestrians alike. Unfortunately, unattended roll-out containers have been visible targets of reckless acts of random vandalism in the past. Regrettably, we all share in these unnecessary costs of replacement so please help us help you to keep your cost down.
Items Not Available for Pickup
Due to changes in state laws the city cannot pick up items which are considered as hazardous or non-hazardous materials. Hazardous materials include but are not limited to things like paint and varnish (including the containers), batteries and acids, oils or oil based liquid and their containers, refrigerators and air conditioners. Non-hazardous materials include, but are not limited to tires, metal items (such as auto parts), construction materials and debris, white goods (such as stoves, water heaters, washers and dryers) and brown goods (such as televisions, mattresses and other furniture). You will be notified if any items you have placed out for collection may not be picked up by the City Sanitation Department.
